Restoring Hardwood Floors

This week we started a project on the old house we are helping restore found here

We were ask to refinish the old hard wood floor after alot of sanding and staining and adding the final clear coat we are happy to say this project is complete Here are some pictures of the process!

Is your refrigerator running?

I think as children we all prank called someone at least once in our lives and chances are we have all used this classic joke.
Is your refrigerator running?
Yes-
Well you better go catch it!

But what if the answer were no... well then we hope that you would call us!

Most calls we get are people debating whether to buy a new fridge or to fix the compressor before anyone has even told them it is a bad compressor. And in most cases its not the compressor that is the problem, smaller problems like the start relay, fuses, fans, or heaters can be going out.
In the hot summer months our refrigerators can be running non stop to try and keep things cool they are more likely to break and wear out during these months. But its is almost always cheaper to fix them then to go and buy a new one!

My dryer is tweeting?

A few months ago our friends ran into a problem,

Their clothes were taking long to dry and they kept hear tweets coming from the wall of the wash room.

Sure enough after taking out the exhaust hose, they found a birds nest.

This can happen frequently especially in the cooler months when birds or other strange critters come looking for a warm home.

It is suggested that every 6 months you clean out your exhaust pipe to free it up from all lint and what ever else that is building itself up in there!

Roof Renovation Part 1

This past week Kyle has started on the roof of the old house he has been working on for our friend. This roof had 2 layers of asphalt shingles and 1 layer of shake shingles, making the tear of a long process.

We are hoping to have this project completed by the end of next week.

So your house smells like dog urine?

Now we have finished with the wallpaper on the house we have been helping with we have been busy getting the horrid smell out of this house it seems the people who lived here before didn't care to let their pet outside to do their business. Needless to say it left this home smelling awful! Our Friend talks about it on his blog here

 It took a few coats of paint in the front room because of how bad they were. But after two coats of bleach water and 3 coats of Kilz paint we finally were able to get the smell out of the home it smelled so much better after!

The Wallpaper is finally removed! after many layers its smelling so much better in the house!

Wallpaper removal part 1

 Two houses down from where we live a good friend of ours and his business partner are working on fixing up this house! We were so thrilled to have them invest in our area! You can see his blog about this home here!

 Kyle has been helping with work on this home this week his is taking down the many layers of wallpaper that were put up on the ceilings. Over the years they had added false ceilings which you can read about here. Under the false ceiling it looks like they had 4 layers of wallpaper making this quite the project!

So you have your food storage now how do you store it? Here are some shelves that help you organize and that help you save space!

Cloudy Dishes?

In 2008 a new law was passed that banned having phosphate in dishwashing detergent. You can read more about it  here.
As a result it has some dishes coming out of your dishwasher with a cloudy white film. We have tested some of the products out there that claim to help with this issue and have found that Lemi-Shine is the best one out there! You can find it at your local grocery store just ad a little in for every use and your dishes will come out clean!
